City Sci-Fi
Spikey forms of life, alien like, spread amongst city lights. Retreat down, muted street sounds. An inner courtyard breathing life.
The brief
Select plants that are sculptural in form and ‘out of this world’ for four gardens split between two new boutique apartments. Be bold and avoid the mundane. This garden has no irrigation so plants needed to be low maintenance and water-wise. Get it right, thrive. Get it wrong, die.
The space
The shiny new zinc clad building emerges out of a patinaed brick shell like an alien spaceship has just touched down. This immediate observation inspired the '60s sci-fi graphics we made to communicate the planting design to the client. Plants that live long and prosper.
We approached the separate floors as stratified zones, allowing each garden to respond to its unique micro-climate. From the highly exposed rooftop terrace, right down to the ground-floor courtyard which was reminiscent of a low-light terrarium.
